I mentioned last week that my family and I were taking a day trip across Lake Michigan to pick some fresh Michigan blueberries and am happy to report we had a wonderful day and picked over 10 pounds of blueberries in under an hour. We'd have even more if my daughter had contributed to the pails instead of her belly...
I obviously wanted to capture the plump and fresh blueberries at their highest state which is why, after making blueberry waffles, smoothies, and a tasty blueberry buckle, I've frozen the rest. And to ensure they're the very best they can be, I've used a Vacu-Seal to remove the excess air.
Now I don't know how long they're actually last in my freezer as I already have a lot of plans for the remaining 8 pounds, but removing the excess air guards them against freezer burn as well as keeping them safely away from other products in the freezer such as my husband's chicken (he's the only meat-eater in our house).
The reason I like the Vacu-Seal over some other brands is that unlike the other counter top varieties, it doesn't take up much room to store in a drawer and it works quickly with only the touch of one button. And at only $29.99, it's a great value (included is the device and 2 large and 3 medium bags).
