The Cloud Appreciation Society

I'm not sure if it's the Irish in me, but I love clouds! I love cloudy days, I don't mind rain, and I certainly believe that a cloudless blue sky isn't as special as one with at least a light speckling of clouds. When my son was born, a plaque was placed on his wall that says, "May your life has just enough clouds to have a beautiful sunset."

So it is no surprise that I'm a member of The Cloud Appreciation Society, a group of like-minded individuals over the blue-sky love affair! As of this post's publication, The Cloud Appreciation Society has 18, 282 members...and is growing each day! The members are located all over the world, although the society is based in the United Kingdom.

If you and your children love to gaze up at the clouds to find shapes, beauty, or simple relaxation, perhaps a membership (to keep the site up and running) is for you.

Or, if you'd like to sit with your children and enjoy a calm and beautiful time, visit cloudappreciationsociety.org to view the many, many photos sent in from members and cloud fans across the globe. And what an amazingly gorgeous globe it is!

The Cloud Appreciation Society's Manifesto:
"WE BELIEVE that clouds are unjustly maligned and that life would be immeasurably poorer without them.

We think that they are Nature’s poetry, and the most egalitarian of her displays, since everyone can have a fantastic view of them.

We pledge to fight ‘blue-sky thinking’ wherever we find it. Life would be dull if we had to look up at cloudless monotony day after day.

We seek to remind people that clouds are expressions of the atmosphere’s moods, and can be read like those of a person’s countenance.

Clouds are so commonplace that their beauty is often overlooked. They are for dreamers and their contemplation benefits the soul. Indeed, all who consider the shapes they see in them will save on psychoanalysis bills.

And so we say to all who’ll listen: Look up, marvel at the ephemeral beauty, and live life with your head in the clouds!"
